Moist Heat at Onyx Wellness
The application of moist heat to an area of the body is generally used to increase local blood flow, reduce muscular tension, relieve pain and relax soft tissues.
Using heat as a therapy dates back thousands of years with people seeking out hot springs for their relaxing effects with more modern-day approaches including the use of hot tubs, steam rooms and heating pads.
In our office, we use hydrocollator packs, which are cloth packs filled with a gel designed to absorb water and retain heat. These packs are placed in a device that is filled with hot water, allowing them to absorb the water and heat. When applied, a terrycloth towel or cover is placed over the hot pack and then it is placed over or around the area being treated.
